Having made several visits to Venice during carnaval time, what I particularly enjoy is immersing myself in the unreal atmosphere of the city which, for the space of a few days, becomes completely transformed.
The many hundreds of people taking part in this internationally-renowned festival flock to St. Mark's Square, admiring each other, looking each other up and down and calling out to one another, all with their faces hidden behind masks.
. . . Submerged in the crowd thronging around the Doge's Palace, I mingle with the many photographers for whom these majestics creatures adopt never-ending poses.
